A 17- year old martyr survived four wars, but was killed in the fifth….

Below is the story of Qassam Abdel Latif Al-Haj, 17-years old. He managed to survive four wars, but was murdered in the fifth.

Qassam’s sister, Lama, recounts the memories she has of Qassam and explicitly stated, “Qassam is not just a number; Qassam is my mother’s soul”

Qassam was a high school student, the youngest of his family and according to Lama, he was his parent’s favorite child.

Qassam was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in his intestines when he was 9 years old, and this was our greatest fear for him. We were afraid that his condition would worsen to a critical stage, unaware that there was something else we should fear more than Crohn’s disease.

Israel killed Qassam while he was at the peak of his future, just beginning his journey to become a young adult and complete his education. He aspired to become a doctor after finishing high school. He was polite, shy, and excelled in his studies. He had started studying for his final exams since last July.

He loved football dearly and was a skilled player, spending his free time playing football and going to the club.

His mother used to always say- “This child is my soul”.

Israel took Qassam and his mother’s soul on November 21, 2023
