Mustafa had just finished his nursing studies and got his exam results during the war. A native of Jabalya refugee camp just north of Gaza City, he immediately began volunteering at a local hospital, urging fellow medical or nursing students to join the effort, his friend told Haaretz. According to her, Mustafa once used a wooden clamp to successfully cut the umbilical cord of a newborn in the absence of sharper tools.
Mustafa was also passionate about cooking and baking, and ran an X account dedicated to the hobby.
He was working at the Indonesian Hospital early in the war when it was surrounded by Israeli army forces, his friend said. The army said at the time that it was situated above a network of Hamas tunnels.
He was killed on February 6, according to the London-based Arabi21 news site. Just a week before, while searching for a cell signal with his nephew, according to the friend, he said on X: “We die hungry in a world overflowing with garbage.”
